March 2021

3/1/21-3/7/21

I was unable to do much work this week due to some health issues that popped up that I've been working on taking care of. My group has been kind in regards to it and i've been working mostly on problem solving some routing issues and touching up some lights. In preparation for renders this upcoming week, I'll be working on making consistent lighting between a batch of the scenes.

After last week's delays, I worked on the lighting for the old man interior and being sure it would be in line with the group's image of the old man's house. The group's being doing good and I can't think of anything to say regarding anything else. People are (for the most part) keeping on deadlines and communicating their issues when they come up. With final renders around the corner, I'll be checking through the render layers this weekend and being sure they'll be able to work with the new way we want to render Shine and Muerto.

So far render tests have gone well. Went through and adjusted the lights that follow the kids so they show the levels of the cell shading properly. There's a bit of an unavoidable issue with the outdoor scenes (that I worked with) it seems where the kids' levels get washed out more than they should be, but we'll either figure out how to adjust it or incorporate it one way or another.

Lights for the old man interior scenes have now been set with help from Owen and Melissa especially. There were some hiccups as some animators had premade some lights that seemed to have still been tied to the old layout and so adjusting those and respective AOVs took a bit of extra work but nothing startlingly difficult or annoying- just par for the course. Hopefully we won't need to do too much finessing and adjustments of lights after the class meeting.

3/29/21-4/2/21

This week was mostly dedicated to updating AOVs and fixing pathing issues that came about after previous render settings had been adjusted by the animators. It seems there's also been some issues within files themselves, such as unexpected/unexplained movement of either the scene or the characters, which has caused some issues and is presenting itself as an issue we need to be aware of while rendering so we get the proper shots and placements set. There's literally no explanation for the issues popping up that we've been able to think about and it would be kinda funny if we weren't so close to the deadline.
